Salamandrina - 1994

Duet #10 / a film by Antonia Thompson

In 1993 filmmaker Antonia Thompson approached Gabreïl Spiegelschrift with the idea of doing a short film about contrasting weak and strong character types. Combining alchemetic symbolism with an abstract narative, Gabreïl created ‘Salamandrina’ (1994) to the same title music piece by Einstürzende Neubauten. To facilitate a contrast to Gabreïl, Patrick Paquette, a Québécois street punk with no dance experience, bravely took on the role.

Salamandrina’ was filmed in the same sound stage, back to back with ‘five short movements’ (1993)
